The first calcium carbene complexes with a formal electrostatic „double bond“ between a R₂C^2- unit and Ca²⁺ have been obtained in the form of a bis(iminophosphorane)-methandiide complex.

Substitution of the Me₃Si-substituent for the much larger 2, 6-diisopropylphenyl group results in formation of a monomeric calcium carbene complex.
